International visitors back to Quang Nam, Thua Thien Hue, Khanh Hoa, and Da Nang are crowded, in some places three times more than domestic visitors.
The first New Year holiday after Vietnam opened to tourism has recorded the return of a large number of international visitors, after nearly three years of only domestic visitors.
According to the statistics of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Quang Nam province, the total number of tourists visiting and staying during the first holiday of the year is estimated at 120,000, of which 89,000 are international visitors and 31,000 are domestic visitors. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department, said that the number of international visitors 3 times higher than domestic is “a good sign, showing that there is prosperity”.
Statistics from the Thua Thien Hue Department of Tourism also show that foreign visitors have increased significantly. By the end of January 2, out of about 19,000 arrivals, international visitors accounted for 50%. In Da Nang, according to data from the airline, there are 395 flights, with more than 58,000 passengers, of which more than 60% are foreigners.
Two big cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City recorded the number of international visitors at 38,000 and 35,000 respectively. In Hanoi, the rate of stay of foreign visitors reached nearly 30% of the total number of visitors to the capital, equal to one-third compared to before the epidemic, mainly from Japan, Germany, South Korea, and the United States.
Khanh Hoa welcomes 355,000 visitors during the New Year holiday, there are no specific statistics for international and domestic visitors. However, according to Cam Ranh International Airport, from December 30, 2022, to January 2, there are 11 international flights on average each day with more than 200 passengers per flight. On the first day of 2023, more than 300 guests rushed to Khanh Hoa from Incheon (Korea) and Almaty (Kazakhstan).
From the end of 2022 up to now, it is welcoming a large number of visitors from Central Asia, with a frequency of 2-3 flights a week, and each trip has about 200 guests. These guests usually stay for a week, with groups of a month, at resorts in Bai Dai, Cam Lam, and Nha Trang City.
For the domestic market, the number of tourists in localities is average due to the short break time and proximity to the Lunar New Year. In addition to international visitors, the occupancy rate in tourist cities nationwide is just over 60%, a few places have a higher rate, such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai) reaching more than 80%, of which the segment 4-5 stars about 95%.
According to the Department of Tourism of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, this year’s New Year holiday falls on the weekend, the time is short, so most people choose to rest and travel on the spot, instead of going far away. . Similarly, Director of Khanh Hoa Tourism Department, Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, also said: “The number of domestic visitors to Khanh Hoa is not large because this year’s New Year is close to the Lunar New Year. Guests mainly stay at 4 – 5 star hotels in coastal area and city center”.
